FAMILY 03

Edge & Gateways

Hardware that sits between the sensor and the cloud: IoT gateways, development kits, industrial compute, operator interfaces and edge AI inference nodes. Standard units where a standard unit fits, and custom builds where the sensor set, protocol mix or environment does not match anything off a shelf — which, in industrial deployments, is most of the time.

The industrial PC, HMI and cabinet PC range is supplied and integrated as part of automation deployments. Custom hardware — gateways, trackers, controllers and inference nodes — is designed by Faststream.

GATEWAY FUNCTIONS

What a gateway is actually for.

CUSTOM GATEWAYS

When a standard unit does not fit.

Most industrial sites have a sensor and controller mix that no catalogue gateway anticipated: a legacy serial protocol, an unusual power arrangement, an enclosure constraint, a hazardous-area classification, or a radio combination that is not sold as a bundle.

Custom gateway development starts from the actual protocol and environmental requirements rather than from a reference design, and covers hardware, firmware, certification path and the device-management integration that makes a fleet of them supportable.

COMMON QUESTIONS

What engineers ask before they call.

01

What is the IoT Mini Start Kit?

It is an all-in-one wireless development platform featuring Bluetooth and LoRaWAN communication, intended to let engineers begin developing IoT applications and extracting real data quickly without first assembling a hardware stack.

02

Does Faststream build custom gateways?

Yes. Alongside the standard range, custom gateways are developed for specific sensor sets, controller types, protocol mixes and environmental requirements, covering hardware, firmware and device-management integration.

03

Are the industrial PC and HMI products designed by Faststream?

These are supplied and integrated as part of industrial automation deployments rather than designed in-house. Custom hardware — gateways, trackers, controllers and edge inference nodes — is designed by Faststream.

04

What does an edge AI inference node do?

It runs models locally at the machine, so that decisions with a hard latency budget — a reject actuation, an interlock, a safety stop — do not depend on a network round trip, and so that video and high-rate sensor data do not have to leave the site.
