SOLUTION 02

Industrial AI

Industrial AI is where a model has to work beside a machine that will not slow down for it. Faststream builds inspection cells, predictive maintenance systems and site analytics that integrate with the controls and maintenance systems already in place — because an alert that does not reach a work order, or a result that does not reach the PLC, changes nothing.

APPLICATIONS

Three that pay for themselves.

INTEGRATION

The integration is the project.

The modelling is usually the smaller half. The larger half is the handshake with the PLC that already runs the line, the reject mechanism that has to fire within a window measured in tens of milliseconds, the MES that needs the result attached to a batch record, and the historian that will be asked about it in an audit two years later.

Faststream treats that as the primary scope. A model that is 99 per cent accurate and cannot deliver its verdict before the part leaves the station has delivered nothing.

ROLLOUT

From one cell to a plant.

01

Feasibility on real parts

Imaging or sensing trial to establish that the signal exists before anything is committed.

02

Single-cell pilot

One station, fully integrated, run long enough to produce a defensible number rather than a demonstration.

03

Line rollout

Replication across stations with a shared configuration, model and monitoring approach.

04

Plant standardisation

Common platform, common annotation standard, common retraining pipeline across lines.

05

Multi-site

Central model management with per-site validation, because the same part looks different in a different plant.

COMMON QUESTIONS

What engineers ask before they call.

01

What is industrial AI?

Industrial AI applies machine learning to manufacturing and process operations — inspection, maintenance prediction, safety monitoring and process optimisation — under real-time, reliability and integration constraints that laboratory or cloud deployments do not face.

02

Does industrial AI require replacing existing equipment?

Rarely. Inspection cells are added to existing stations, predictive maintenance uses added sensors or existing motor current data, and video analytics runs on cameras already installed. The constraints are mounting position, trigger availability and cycle-time headroom.

03

How is a result delivered to the line?

Through the PLC — a trigger in, a pass or fail result out within the cycle-time budget, and reject actuation over digital I/O or fieldbus, with results and images passed to MES or a historian for traceability.
