SILICON DESIGN · EXPERIENCE

Silicon by Vertical

The same engineering shows up differently in a pacemaker, a 5G radio, a warehouse beacon and a smart meter. Across healthcare, IoT, 5G and wireless, consumer and smart infrastructure, Faststream has designed the chips these products run on — SoCs, mixed-signal and RF, sensor front-ends, NFC and RFID, BLE and beacons, low-power MCUs and hardware security — usually several of them on one part.

BY VERTICAL

Where the silicon has gone.

Each market bends the design in its own way — the regulatory path, the power budget, the certification, the lifetime. The chip reflects it.

COMMON QUESTIONS

What engineers ask about this.

01

What kinds of chip has Faststream designed?

Across markets, the work spans digital ASIC and SoC design, mixed-signal and RF, sensor analog front-ends, NFC and RFID, BLE and beacon devices, low-power microcontrollers, and hardware security and root-of-trust. Most real products need several of these together — a connected medical device, for instance, combines a sensor front-end, a low-power MCU, a radio and a security block on one part.

02

Which verticals do you have the most silicon experience in?

Healthcare and medical, IoT and industrial, 5G and telecom, wireless and connectivity, consumer, automotive and smart infrastructure. The matrix above shows which silicon types are strongest in each — sensor front-ends and low power dominate healthcare and IoT; RF and high-speed digital dominate 5G; NFC, BLE and low power dominate consumer and connectivity.

03

Do you design NFC, RFID and beacon silicon specifically?

Yes. Short-range and contactless identification — NFC and RFID — and beacon and BLE devices are a recurring part of the connectivity and consumer work, usually paired with a low-power MCU and, where the application needs it, a hardware security block so the tag or beacon cannot be cloned.

04

Can you design the sensor front-end and the radio on the same chip?

That integration is the point of most of these programmes. A sensor AFE, a low-power processor, a radio and a security root-of-trust on one low-power part is what a connected product actually needs, and designing them together — rather than bolting modules side by side — is where the power, cost and reliability are won.

BUILD WITH FASTSTREAM

Bring us the difficult part.

Whatever the vertical, the hard part is usually combining the sensor, the radio, the processor and the security on one low-power part. Tell us the specification, the constraint and the deadline.
