An asset that crosses an ocean, sits on a remote site, or travels a long stretch of sparse coverage does not need two tracking systems. It needs one device whose normal path is cellular and which escalates to a satellite link when continuity is required rather than eventual delivery.
Integrating a non-terrestrial module is therefore less about the radio than about the policy around it. When does the device escalate? Which messages justify the cost? What payload survives the reduction that satellite bandwidth imposes? How does the platform reconcile two transports into one asset history?
Getting that wrong produces either a device that exhausts its battery on satellite messages nobody needed, or one that stays silent exactly when it mattered.
