What makes a dashboard actually get used?
Designing backwards from the decision. Fewer charts, chosen because they change what someone does, beats a complete visualisation of everything the platform collects.
Telemetry visualisation, alerting and reporting — specifically the reporting an operator will act on rather than every chart that could be drawn. A dashboard nobody opens is an expensive way to store data.
Most IoT dashboards fail the same way. They present everything the platform collects, arranged by what is easy to plot, and the person who has to act on it cannot find the two numbers that would change a decision.
Designing backwards from the decision is the alternative. What does this person do differently depending on what they see, how often do they look, and what has to be true for them to trust it? That produces fewer charts and more action.
The other half is integration. An alert that generates a work order in the maintenance system gets acted on. An alert that generates an email competes with everything else in an inbox and loses.
| Parameter | Detail |
|---|---|
| Function | Telemetry visualisation, alerting and reporting |
| Design approach | Backwards from the decision the reader has to make |
| Alerting | Routed to where action happens, not only to a dashboard |
| Integration | ERP, CMMS, MES and customer systems |
| Retention | Policy per data class rather than retaining everything indefinitely |
| Typical markets | All connected product and industrial deployments |
Maturity — silicon-proven, FPGA-validated or RTL stage — is confirmed at enquiry for the specific configuration you need, rather than claimed generically here.
Send the target node, the interface requirements and the integration context. If this is not the right fit, that will be said early rather than discovered at integration.
